Patience… not something I would say I have an overabundance of. When feasible, I like to see rewards for my efforts as quickly as possible. Although I've been singing my entire life (literally) the majority of it being gospel music, I didn't join my first "real" band until 2003 when a co-worker heard me singing karaoke at a company event and asked me to join his garage band. But after a few months of practicing with little progress and hope that this project would ever get off the ground, fate decided to pay a visit.

While shopping for a mattress, the loquacious salesman who (thanks to my wonderful wife) had divulged my newfound interest in music, informed me that he knew a very talented drummer searching for a lead singer for his new band. Though we did not purchase a mattress, I thanked him for the info, sped home, and made the call that would change everything.

A quick conversation and a few e-mail greetings with the other band members later, and I'm doing my first audition. That was January 4th, 2004. Six practices, 45 songs, and about 200 band names later, and I'm doing my first gig with The Owned. That was February 2nd, 2004. Like I said… patience is not one of my virtues.

But like 99.9% of the garage bands out there, after only ten short months, a dozen awesome shows, and just as things were starting to get real interesting, The Owned imploded. But I kept in contact with the guitarist who knew some people, who knew some other people, and so it goes. I knew Dana, who knew Danny, who knew Nick, who knew Tommy Pearson (the human jukebox). C4 Squirrel was birthed… and died after a few months. But through this I found a friend who would give me the confidence in myself that I was totally lacking… Tommy Pearson.

After that project, Tommy joined up with the boys from Stompin' Ground who just so happened to be looking for a lead singer. Of course, he convinced them to give me an audition and just like that we were in business again. This is where I met Joe Jones who was in attendance for many S.G. shows and who would become another friend who would again boost my confidence in myself.

Fast forward a couple years, past the end of Stompin' Ground, some more auditions, a few more failed projects, and many charitable shows with the Richmond Rock Exchange (just to keep my chops), and at last to Rockslide. I'm finally where I belong! With a great group of supremely talented musicians and friends with an infinitely diverse repertoire who are ready to rock at a moment's notice… anywhere… anyway… anytime! Every practice yields fresh ideas, new possibilities, and exciting results. A perfect fit for someone who lacks patience… someone like me.
